October 1, 2023The head of the Ternopil Regional Council, Mikhail Golovko, who was caught accepting a bribe, had $15,000 and 1,500 euros found in his closet returned to him.
His lawyers claim that the confiscated money belongs to Golovko’s father, whom he left in charge of it during his trip to the United States.
As a reminder, one month after his detention, Golovko was released and returned to his position, stating that the bribery allegations were “absurd and a provocation.”
Two months after his release, the money found during the search was returned to him.
On June 26th, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine detained Mikhail Golovko, the chairman of the Ternopil Regional Council, on charges of accepting a bribe. According to the investigation, they demanded nearly 1.8 million UAH from the owner of a company for signing certificates of completed work on the construction and repair of infrastructure objects by the communal enterprise of the Ternopil Regional Council. After the transfer of the third installment of over 600,000 UAH, Golovko and two deputy heads of the regional council were caught “red-handed.”
Two days later, on June 28th, Mikhail Golovko was arrested for 60 days with the option of posting bail in the amount of 805,000 UAH. On June 29th, a bail of 805,000 UAH was posted for Mikhail Golovko.
