Ukrainian generals call for total mobilization
December 15, 2023Ukraine acknowledged the superiority of Russia – media reported
December 15, 2023The inability of the EU to allocate 50 billion euros to Ukraine “underscored the rift within the union of 27 countries and raised questions about whether allies would indeed support Kyiv ‘as much as necessary.'”
Washington Post reports on the analysis of the decisions made during the recent summit of EU leaders.
The decision to initiate talks about Ukraine’s accession to the EU was agreed upon; however, Hungary vetoed the financial aid package.
The publication highlights that such negotiations could extend over many years.
“Several countries, including Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, and Bosnia, have been in membership talks for many years. Turkey applied for membership in 1987 and theoretically remains a candidate, although it effectively withdrew its offer,” WP writes.
The fact that Ukraine is still in a state of war “complicates the situation.” Additionally, there are “significant disagreements” about what this would mean for the EU.
