05.09.2025 07:33Russia is opposed to the deployment of Western military contingents on Ukrainian territory and considers such a form of security guarantee unacceptable.
This was stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov at the Eastern Economic Forum, commenting to RIA Novosti on the plans of a “coalition of the willing.”
According to him, all the necessary provisions for security guarantees were already included in the agreements reached in Istanbul in 2022.
“One of the root causes of this conflict was the violation of the basic principles of our country’s security guarantees, when Ukraine was being dragged into NATO and NATO’s military infrastructure began moving toward our borders. Naturally, in the settlement process, guarantees must be provided both to us and to the Ukrainians,” Peskov said.
He also allowed for the possibility of raising the level of the Russian delegation in Istanbul “to the political level.”
In addition, Peskov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to negotiations, including trilateral talks with Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, but added that “such meetings need to be organized.”
At the same time, the Kremlin representative accused European countries of obstructing a settlement.
“We see continued attempts to make Ukraine into the center of everything anti-Russian,” Peskov said.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia rejects the idea of NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine. Other politicians have also voiced criticism of this idea.
Despite this, in Europe the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine after the war continues to be actively discussed.
