October 3, 2023The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have informed the mayor of Sumy, Alexander Lysenko, and the director of the Department of Infrastructure of the Sumy City Council of their suspicion of receiving unlawful benefits amounting to 2.13 million Ukrainian hryvnias. On October 2nd, they were caught red-handed while receiving the final installment of the bribe, which amounted to 1.4 million hryvnias.
This information has been reported by NABU (the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine).
The actions of the suspects have been classified by law enforcement as a violation of Article 368, Part 4 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to bribery of individuals providing public services. According to the investigation, the suspects demanded this money in exchange for making a decision on tariff establishment and to avoid creating artificial obstacles to the company’s operations.
Currently, the issue of imposing preventive measures on the suspects is under consideration.
