Ukraine is losing population due to war and those who have gone abroad – Deutsche Welle

The population of Ukraine is decreasing due to the war and a significant number of people leaving the country.

According to the publication, during the first six months of 2023, approximately 93,500 children were born in Ukraine, which is 28% less than during the same pre-war period in 2021.

“According to the most pessimistic forecast, Ukraine’s population could decrease from the current approximately 37 million to 26 million within ten years,” said Ella Libanova, the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Studies, during her speech at the Regional Economic Forum in Kyiv.

The decline in birth rates could also be influenced by the outflow of female population. Due to the war, more than 6.2 million people have left Ukraine, with the majority being women of working age and many having children.
