October 3, 2023The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested the mayor of Sumy, Alexander Lysenko, on charges of bribery.
This information was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
“Officials demanded bribes from local entrepreneurs in exchange for unhindered business operations in the city. It has been documented that they extorted money from a local waste disposal company. The suspects demanded 2,130,000 hryvnias from the entrepreneur. In case of refusal to pay, they threatened to create artificial obstacles to conducting business. The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested both suspects ‘in the act’ while receiving one of the installments of the illegal gain, amounting to 1.4 million hryvnias,” stated the Security Service of Ukraine.
Along with the mayor, the Security Service of Ukraine also arrested the director of the city’s infrastructure department. Searches are currently being conducted at their premises.
