January 18, 2024The meeting at the White House between the leadership of Congress and U.S. President Joe Biden “did little to break the deadlock on the issue of aid to Ukraine”.
This information reported according to The New York Times.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, stated after the meeting that he insisted on tightening measures to curb migration at the southern border of the United States.
“I told the President what I’ve been saying for many months, namely that we need changes at the border, significant changes in policy. We must insist – we must insist – that the border be a top priority,” Johnson said.
However, Democrats, after the meeting at the White House, expressed optimism about reaching a swift agreement on Ukraine. It’s worth noting that following the mentioned meeting, the White House reported that Biden discussed with lawmakers the strategic consequences of Congress’s inaction for Ukraine, the U.S., and the world. He made it clear that ongoing inaction jeopardizes the national security of the United States, NATO, and the rest of the free world.
