October 26, 2023The new Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has stated that Bratislava will not provide military assistance to Ukraine.
This information comes from the local publication Aktuality.
Fico remarked, “It’s better for them to negotiate peace for ten years than to kill each other for ten years with no results.” He also labeled the peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “unrealistic.” According to Fico, negotiations should be conducted between Russia and the United States, and the European Union, which he referred to as a “weapons supplier” to Ukraine, should transform into a “peacemaker.”
During a meeting with Slovak lawmakers, Fico made several statements:
- He characterized the conflict in Ukraine as being “caused by attacks of Ukrainian fascists on the civilian population of Russian nationality.”
- He mentioned that after a year of mutual killings, the Russians have gained greater territorial advantages compared to Ukraine. He questioned what the situation would be like in another year, as it is clear that there is no military solution.
- Fico stated that he would not support EU sanctions against Russia without analyzing their impact on Slovakia.
It’s worth noting that during his election campaign, Fico used the slogan “Not to give Ukraine a single bullet,” and he was successful in the elections.
