October 13, 2023In Germany, the number of male Ukrainian refugees is on the rise.
This information comes from Bild, citing a survey by the Munich-based Ifo Institute.
According to the available data, in the summer of 2022, men constituted 8% of all refugees from Ukraine, but now they make up 21%.
The researchers of this study note that Ukrainian women with children who fled to Germany at the beginning of the war are, whenever possible, returning home to their families. In their place, people from regions that have suffered during this time are arriving in Germany. According to the publication, these newcomers are generally less educated and financially secure. Some of them soon return because they cannot maintain their accustomed standard of living in Germany.
Those who manage to find employment generally have a more positive assessment of their financial situation in Germany compared to their home country.
Previously, according to UN statistics, Germany surpassed Poland in the number of Ukrainian refugees. As of June 6th, the number of Ukrainian refugees worldwide reached 6.28 million people, with 5.935 million of them in Europe. Out of those, 1,069,700 are in Germany, and 992,700 are in Poland.
