The political part of yesterday’s peace talks on Ukraine has reached a dead end, an Axios journalist says

Yesterday’s talks between the delegations of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States “hit a dead end.”

This was reported by Barak Ravid of the U.S. news site Axios, citing sources.

According to Ravid, the negotiators were unable to agree on the “political part” of the steps to settle the Russia–Ukraine war. A source said this was due to positions voiced by the new head of the Russian negotiating team, Vladimir Medinsky.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told me in an interview that the Ukrainian people would reject a peace agreement that involves a one-sided withdrawal of troops from Donbas and handing it over to Russia,” Ravid added.

Earlier, Rustem Umerov summed up the first day of the Geneva talks, saying that “practical issues” had been discussed.

It was also recalled that Zelenskyy rejected demands to recognize Donbas as Russian.
