The Russian army advanced in the area of Platonovka and Myrnohrad
17.02.2026 - 07:01It would be naive to expect that, in the short term, an agreement can be reached between Ukraine, Europe, the United States, and Russia.
This was stated by Czech President Petr Pavel in an interview with Odkryto.cz.
“The fact that the positions of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States have come closer together—or are already almost aligned—is a great success, considering how many contradictory statements we have heard from different sides during this time. What matters is not agreement among Ukraine and its supporters, but agreement on the terms of a peace settlement with the side that is fighting—in other words, with Russia,” Pavel said.
According to him, Moscow has allegedly shown little willingness to negotiate or compromise. Russia is insisting on “maximalist demands,” Pavel believes. In this regard, he called for “political, financial, and economic” pressure to be applied to Russia, as well as continued military support for Kyiv.
The third round of trilateral talks between representatives of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States will take place in Geneva on February 17–18. The Russian delegation will be headed by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the meeting will discuss the territorial issue, which at the moment is the most problematic. The same was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
