The Prime Minister of Poland spoke out against extending the preferential trade regime for Ukraine
January 16, 2024The extended and overly cautious delivery of military aid to Ukraine has notably diminished all achievements in this regard. Instead of presenting a clear vision for achieving victory, various officials have resorted to vague statements, indicating that Ukraine should determine the outcome of the conflict, Putin must not be allowed to win, or Ukraine cannot be allowed to lose. In essence, the commitment to a particular path remains steadfast, regardless of the destination, Politico reported.
This shift has transformed what was once a discussion on the West’s comprehensive strategy for Ukraine in Washington, Berlin, or Paris into repetitive statements about freezing the conflict. Despite the anticipation that sanctions would significantly impact Russia, they proved easily circumvented, leading to a reported 40% growth in the country’s national wealth by the end of 2023 compared to 2022.
However, NATO’s inability to provide Ukraine with a clear roadmap to membership at the Vilnius summit has emerged as the most detrimental factor influencing the conflict’s trajectory. The belief that Ukraine is unprepared for NATO membership has arguably strengthened Putin’s position and extended the conflict more than the West’s self-restrictive approach to supporting Ukraine.
