03.11.2024 - 06:16Arthur Lazarenko, the son of former Head of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), Ivan Bakanov, acquired land near Kyiv at one-third of its actual market value and is now completing the construction of a two-story estate on the property.
This was reported by Radio Liberty’s investigative project “Schemes.”
Journalists discovered that in September 2021, Bakanov’s son purchased a nearly 1,000-square-meter plot with an unfinished mansion in an upscale area of the village of Khodosivka in the Kyiv region. The contract stated the land’s price as 455,000 UAH (approximately €10,146).
However, the previous owner had purchased the plot for three times as much, at 1,418,000 UAH (€31,619).
It was previously reported that the former head of the SBU, Bakanov, arranged a position for his son within the security service. Journalists observed that Lazarenko spent most of his work hours at dining establishments and the gym. On the day he was followed, Lazarenko spent a total of about two hours in the SBU office.
Additionally, reports indicated that the son of the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Medical and Social Expertise found over $450,000 in cash and held a Russian passport. Moreover, he allegedly owned three undeclared apartments, while his mother, a government official, had certified herself and her son as second-degree disabled.
