The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, has stated that he did not promise to approve the allocation of $24 billion in aid to Ukraine to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This amount had been requested by the White House from Congress.

According to the portal, Zelensky responded to many questions about the war, but “McCarthy did not make any commitments regarding the aid package requested by the administration.”

President of Ukraine, who is currently in the United States, visited the Capitol today.

He intended to address the congressmen, but McCarthy denied him this opportunity, citing the busy schedules of lawmakers.

According to the New York Times, McCarthy refused Zelensky’s speech not due to the lack of time for lawmakers but because of the position of Republicans, many of whom advocate for reducing aid to Ukraine.

It is worth noting that ahead of Zelensky’s visit to Washington, a group of Republican lawmakers sent a letter to Biden expressing their intention to oppose the adoption of a new $24 billion aid package for Ukraine.
