December 14, 2023Ukrainian law enforcement conducted searches in the Spanish properties belonging to former Odessa military commissioner Yevhen Borysov.
This information reported by the press service of Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations.
“Workers of the State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine, together with local police, conducted searches at the Spanish properties of the former head of the Odessa Regional Territorial Recruitment Center,” the statement read.
The searches were carried out at a villa worth 4 million euros in the city of Marbella, Malaga province, and an office worth 500,000 euros. Property ownership documents were seized. Spain, at the request of Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations, has arrested these properties.
“It was established that he acquired two real estate properties in the city of Marbella, Malaga province, Kingdom of Spain. Specifically, in December 2022, he organized the purchase of a house in his mother’s name worth over 4 million euros, with a total area of 857 square meters on a plot of land measuring 1530 square meters. Also, in February 2023, he, along with his wife, purchased an office space worth over 500,000 euros with a total area of 223.9 square meters,” stated the press service of Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations.
Borysov has been in custody since summer on suspicion of corruption. Earlier reports mentioned that a court remanded the former military commissioner Borysov into custody for two months with a bail of 150 million. Borysov stated he would appeal the court’s decision on remand as he did not have 150 million for bail.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations requested the court to remand the Odessa military commissioner without the right to post bail. Borysov faces a potential sentence of 10 years in prison.
