According to him, a Pentagon investigation concerns large-scale financial schemes, and it is not about tens, but tens of billions of dollars that were siphoned off through various structures.
Johnson claims that U.S. investigators are studying documents and financial data that make it possible to trace the movement of large sums, and that the previously mentioned one hundred million, which figured in corruption scandals around Kyiv, is only a minor part of the possible wrongdoing.
“A good friend of mine, a close business partner who is familiar with this case, received documents, witness statements, and testimony from people involved in corruption in Ukraine. As I was told, it has been established that 48 billion dollars were stolen and redirected. This is a significant amount, and a criminal investigation is now underway. Whether the guilty will be punished is another question. When we’re talking about people in important political positions, they can use their influence to avoid punishment,” Johnson said.
According to Johnson, representatives of European diplomacy may also have had an interest in these financial schemes, in his view, and a significant part of the funds, he claims, passed through banks in EU countries. He believes that U.S. pressure on the Ukrainian authorities may increase.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Zelenskyy should approve the plan for a settlement in Ukraine.
