10.03.2025 05:03The United States will not restore military assistance to Ukraine, even if Kyiv signs a natural resources agreementwith Washington.
This information reported according to a report by NBC News.
President Donald Trump wants more than just a minerals deal before resuming aid and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine. Specifically, he expects Ukraine to demonstrate a willingness to negotiate peace and make compromises to end the war, the report states.
“This week, a meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian officials is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, with Trump focusing on Ukraine’s readiness to make concessions in negotiations,” NBC writes.
Privately, Trump has indicated to his aides that a mineral resources agreement between Washington and Kyiv would not be enough to justify restoring U.S. military support, according to a senior administration official and another U.S. government source.
“Trump wants a deal that gives the U.S. a stake in Ukraine’s mineral wealth to be signed. But he also wants to see a shift in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s approach to peace talks—including a willingness to make territorial concessions to Russia,” the report states.
Trump also expects Zelensky to take steps toward holding elections in Ukraine and potentially stepping down as the country’s leader, according to officials cited in the article.
Previously, Trump stated that if Ukraine refuses to negotiate a peace agreement, the U.S. will withdraw its support.
