05.01.2026 09:02U.S. President Donald Trump believes Washington will recoup a lot of the money invested in Ukraine through a minerals deal with Kyiv.
He told this to reporters, according to media reports.
“I got a big portion of it back, because we made a deal on rare earth elements, and we’re going to get back most of that money—maybe all of the money, and maybe even more than all of the money,” the politician said.
Two days earlier, at a press conference, Trump said that Washington is not losing money because of the war in Ukraine, but is making money from it. He explained that the United States supplies NATO with large amounts of ammunition, which the alliance pays for.
In addition, Trump previously said that there is a mess in Ukraine. He said that progress has emerged toward resolving the conflict, but that a peaceful settlement is being hindered by the chaos that existed in Ukraine before he was elected to a second presidential term.
