The Ukrainian ambassador expressed outrage that Estonia will grant residence permits to Ukrainians with expired passports

Estonia will issue residence permits to Ukrainian men even with expired Ukrainian passports due to the failure to update military registration data.

The Ukrainian embassy is “not very happy with this situation,” the publication notes.

“At the time of the full-scale invasion, the legislation on military registration was not thoroughly developed. So now, let’s say, the stage of data updating is underway. And as a state, Ukraine is obliged to know who is where and what mobilization resources we have,” stated Ambassador Maksym Kononenko to the publication.

The Estonian Ministry of the Interior believes that “a residence permit is connected not to the passport, but to the person,” and if a person has the right to live in Estonia, “then they can extend their residence permit.”

Previously, Germany announced that Ukrainian refugees would be able to stay in the country even with expired passports.

However, some German politicians believe that Berlin should help Ukraine by sending male refugees to the front. For example, this opinion was expressed by the Minister of the Interior of the state of Hesse, Roman Possek, in a report by ARD.
