American Senator Lindsey Graham proposed providing assistance to Ukraine in the form of loans or in exchange for natural resources. In his opinion, this approach could garner support for unlocking aid among Republican congressmen.
“I want to turn the aid package into a loan, and that makes sense to me… We have a debt of $34 trillion. Ukraine has valuable natural resources; they have a lot of resources,” Graham stated. If assistance is provided in the form of loans, he estimates that the bill will be passed by the House of Representatives and could garner between six to eight Republican votes in the Senate.
“This is Trump’s idea. If adopted, I think we can get a lot of votes in the House of Representatives and the Senate,” added the Republican senator. Earlier, the former president stated at a rally that money should only be given to Ukraine as loans. Previously, the US provided money and weapons on a grant basis.
