27.03.2024 - 12:26The United States does not encourage Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries.
This was stated by a representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller.
“Our position since the beginning of this war has always been that we do not encourage or support Ukraine conducting strikes outside of its territory,” Miller said in response to a question about oil refineries.
He declined to comment on whether Washington had been in contact with Kyiv after the recent attack on an oil refinery in Samara.
Prior to this attack, the Financial Times reported that the US had urged Ukraine to cease strikes on Russian oil refineries to prevent a rise in global oil prices and retaliatory strikes by Russia on fuel facilities belonging to Western companies.
It is worth noting that following this publication, only one strike occurred – on a plant in the Samara region.
However, the Office of the President called the information from The Financial Times about the US urging Ukraine to cease attacks on Russia’s oil infrastructure “fictional.”
Vice Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna had essentially confirmed The Financial Times’ report earlier, stating that “we understand the calls from our American partners,” but Ukraine responded to such calls by “achieving its goals” and conducting “very successful operations” on Russian territory.
