January 26, 2024Vice Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk mentioned that many people who moved within Ukraine due to the war have adapted over the past 2 years and no longer need state assistance.
“Our partners insist on optimizing payments. We are directly tied to the decisions of our partners. Partners demand constant verification of payments with the aim of reducing or optimizing them. According to international standards, 2 years is sufficient to adapt,” Irina Vereshchuk said. In 2024, they want to reduce the total amount of payments from 1,7 billion euros, as it was in 2023, to 1,4 billion euros, as it was in 2022.
“The vulnerable should continue to receive payments, while those who, for example, have already adapted, or received housing, or have a well-paid job… the approaches should be more fair,” the minister said. According to her data, there are approximately 4.9 million people in Ukraine who are considered internally displaced persons and 2.5 million of them receive monthly payments. Earlier, the Ministry of Social Policy proposed from February 1 to continue payments only for pensioners and displaced persons “who cannot find employment due to objective circumstances.”
