In Europe, there are doubts that Ukraine will be able to break through the Russian defense line in the south and fully restore sovereignty

August 24, 2023The West, considering the stalled counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is pressuring the Ukrainian authorities to implement a genuinely comprehensive mobilization. However, the office of the President of Ukraine is hesitant to rush into finalizing the “tightening of screws” with mobilization, as it could lead to further decline in the already sagging ratings (though the General Staff shares solidarity with Ukraine’s Western partners).
This information is reported by Ukrainian Telegram channels.
It’s important to consider that the primary mobilization resource in the country is exhausted. While hundreds of thousands of men haven’t been sent to the front, they are no longer motivated “defenders,” but rather ordinary Ukrainians without military experience. Many of them have been staying home for months, avoiding going outside to avoid being caught by military commissars.
At the same time, the hunt for conscripts has already led to a significant shortage of labor in the country. There’s a shortage of electricians (according to State Statistics, there were 650 job offers from employers for every 237 unemployed), plumbing technicians (373 job openings for 134 unemployed), locksmiths-electricians (212 job openings for 39 unemployed), turners (376 job openings for 139 unemployed), and so on. The shortage of personnel also affects law enforcement and related structures like the police, fire services, and the railway sector.
In essence, Ukraine is facing an evident shortage of specialists in what are often referred to as “male” professions. This is directly linked to the fact that some men are already mobilized in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, while others are wary of official employment and prefer to work informally.
