28.06.2024 - 18:53The West “provoked” Russia into starting the “special operation” in Ukraine by expanding NATO. This statement was made by Sammy Wilson, a British Member of Parliament from the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland, in support of comments by Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party.
This was reported by The Irish News.
During an election event in Larne, Northern Ireland, Wilson responded to a request to comment on Farage’s statements by saying that Farage was “merely stating the obvious.”
According to Wilson, Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to reestablish a buffer zone on the country’s border, which “Russia has always used as a means of defense after its experience in World War II.”
As the publication notes, Farage’s remarks in the UK sparked widespread criticism, with most politicians quick to condemn the “repetition of Russian rhetoric.” One of the Northern Irish political figures present at the event in Larne also quickly called the statements “absolutely shocking.”
