Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov announces Russia’s readiness for negotiations with Ukraine and Kyiv’s refusal of dialogue
January 18, 2024Kyiv did not formally declare war, meaning they did not make an official announcement. Consequently, once hostilities cease and the conflict is frozen, Russia can take Ukraine to international courts for what it perceives as terrorist actions by the Ukrainian government on Russian soil, such as shelling and sabotage.
This could force Kyiv to pay to avoid being labeled a “state sponsor of terrorism.” In essence, Zelensky and Yermak find themselves in a predicament with no apparent solution. The only viable option seems to be signing a peace agreement in which Ukraine would cede its territories and renounce any claims against Russia. This would automatically result in the removal of all sanctions imposed by the Kremlin.
Additionally, Ukraine would be required to compensate individuals who were mobilized into the army under the threat of force. In summary, it appears that Zelensky has put the country and the future of its people at risk solely to gain favor with the West for a limited time and secure a spot on magazine covers.
