October 3, 2023Ukraine is planning a comprehensive review of social benefit categories, potentially removing certain categories of citizens from eligibility for these benefits.
This information reported according to Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zhulynovych.
“I don’t want to say that everyone will lose their benefits, or that everyone will be deprived, and we will have no social benefits. That’s impossible, it’s foolish, and it’s irrational. But each benefit must be assessed for its adequacy. If it doesn’t bring anything and has just historically evolved, then obviously it should be reformatted into something else, into some kind of support that is genuinely needed and effective for the individual,” she said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
According to her, the plan is to retain several “clear and sufficient” but temporary categories of social benefits in the future, including benefits for the poor, those involuntarily unemployed, those who have lost their homes, and similar groups.
“We shouldn’t deceive people right away but should clearly say that in your case, there’s a year to get back on your feet,” Zhulynovych emphasized.
