American professor: Ukraine will have to cede part of its territory to Russia
20.10.2026 17:05President of the United States Donald Trump said that the United States is actively conducting negotiations with Russia on the Ukrainian issue.
He told reporters this before departing for Kansas, in response to a question about why he was not imposing new sanctions against Moscow.
“And, of course, we are conducting negotiations with him [Russian President Vladimir Putin] on Ukraine. I’m not going to blow up negotiations halfway through,” Trump said. His remarks were broadcast by DRM News.
Trump also warned that he could halt the negotiations at any moment if he does not see results.
Speaking about strikes on Ukraine, the American president stressed that Russia had done “far from everything” it could have, and noted that he greatly appreciates such an approach from Moscow.
At the same time, Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “should find another representative who is capable of negotiating.” According to the American leader, Zelensky should have settled the conflict “a very long time ago,” and if he had listened to Trump, he “would have made a much better deal a very long time ago.”
On September 18, Zelensky accused the Trump administration of restricting the operation of the Starlink system, adding that he did not know who exactly made such a decision. On the same day, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned the Ukrainian leader that he should express himself more carefully.
