Criticized Zelensky and called for dialogue with Russia: Trump has chosen the head of U.S. National Intelligence
November 14, 2024The incoming national security advisor to Donald Trump, Mike Waltz, confirmed that the newly elected president plans to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table to end the war.
He made this statement in a comment to “Voice of America.”
“The President has made it clear that he wants to bring both sides to the negotiation table. He is focused on ending the war, not continuing it,” said Republican Congressman from Florida, Mike Waltz.
He added that Trump’s opinion will be decisive on Ukraine policy in the White House.
It is worth noting that The New York Times, citing sources within the Ukrainian leadership, reported that Ukraine is considering an accelerated schedule for negotiations with Russia and potentially freezing the conflict along the front line.
The report stated that Donald Trump is pushing for an expedited negotiation plan.
“The defense of Ukraine’s interests in potential negotiations will depend not on territorial boundaries, which are likely to be defined through combat, but on what guarantees exist for a ceasefire,” the article noted.
A senior Ukrainian official described territorial matters as a “secondary issue” compared to security guarantees.
Ukraine seeks NATO membership as a form of guarantee, but the Alliance has refused this request. Another option being considered in Kyiv is a “powerful arsenal” of conventional weapons supplied by the West.
Meanwhile, sources in Russia have suggested that a front freeze could occur in the spring if Moscow regains control of the Kursk region by that time. However, other Russian representatives speculated that the Kremlin would demand more substantial territorial concessions from Ukraine.
