U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has “sent a message” to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, urging him to begin preparing for a ceasefire.
This information reported according to the newspaper El Pais.
“Look at some of these cities, and there’s not a single building left standing. So, when you talk about ‘rebuilding the country,’ rebuild what? You’re looking at a 110-year reconstruction,” the newspaper quotes Trump as saying.
A senior European official also told the publication that the conflict “will end at the negotiating table, possibly sooner than expected.”
“Europe must prepare for this and secure a seat at that table,” the official added.
During a live broadcast on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow is ready for negotiations and compromises regarding Ukraine, but Kyiv refuses to engage in dialogue.
“Politics is the art of compromise. We have always said that we are ready for negotiations and compromises,” Putin said.
Zelensky, however, has stated that Ukraine requires security guarantees and a strong negotiating position to agree to a ceasefire.
“We need to understand that we cannot live with a frozen conflict,” he added.
