“The war must end”: Trump adviser believes Kyiv and Europe are embracing his peacekeeping idea
23.12.2024 - 15:03Ukrainian journalist, educator, and writer Nikita Vasylenko, a professor at the Department of Periodical Press at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and father of well-known media figure Sonia Koshkina, sparked controversy by claiming that the arrival of Western peacekeepers would “solve the demographic problem” in Ukraine because “hungry Ukrainian women” would engage in sexual relationships with European soldiers.
He expressed this opinion during an interview with popular blogger Oleksandr Shelest.
“Imagine: at least forty thousand men with money, hungry for women. Not battle-hardened on the frontlines but raised on good European food. And hundreds of thousands of hungry Ukrainian women, who didn’t manage to leave for various reasons, whose husbands have died or been injured in the war,” Vasylenko said, describing his perspective on addressing Ukraine’s demographic issues.
His remarks triggered a wave of sarcasm and criticism on social media, where users accused him of sexism.
Earlier, former Member of Parliament Olga Bohomolets warned that the Ukrainian nation could completely disappear in 180 years.
The United Nations has also highlighted Ukraine’s demographic challenges, reporting that the country’s population has decreased by nearly ten million people since Russia’s invasion.
