Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine urged Kyiv and Moscow to hold direct negotiations

Russia and Ukraine must engage in direct negotiations.

This information reported according to Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special envoy for Ukraine under President Donald Trump. He made this statement during an interview with Tagesschau.

“The three sides need to talk to each other, especially the two main players—Russia and Ukraine. They must sit down and talk,” Kellogg said.

He emphasized the necessity of a direct conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. While the U.S. is aware that Russia considers Ukraine’s president illegitimate, Kellogg stated, “That argument doesn’t work.”

“They will have to [talk]. And both sides will have to give something up,” Trump’s envoy noted.

Earlier, John Cole, Kellogg’s deputy, stated that the U.S. does not rule out the possibility of Ukraine returning to its 2014 borders and eventually joining NATO.
