Zelensky spoke about possible venues for a meeting with Putin
21.08.2025 09:01Ahead of the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, “two big questions remain.”
This was stated by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in an interview with the American news channel Fox News.
“In a sense, they are very simple, but at the same time extremely complicated. First, Ukraine wants to be sure that it will not be attacked again, that its territorial integrity will be guaranteed for a long time into the future. Russia, meanwhile, wants to secure certain territories — most of which it has already occupied, but some not yet. That is the essence of the negotiations. The Ukrainians want security guarantees. The Russians want a certain amount of territory,” Vance said.
According to him, the White House has “received details” of the parties’ requests, but believes they can be resolved at the leaders’ meeting itself.
“We are working on the details, but we haven’t figured everything out yet. And I don’t think the sides should be forced to wait until absolutely every small matter is settled before meeting. Sometimes it’s the meeting itself that helps sort out those details,” he stated.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that preparations for a Zelensky–Putin meeting were already underway. Western media reported that the White House wants to hold the meeting in Hungary.
