If one attempts to predict how the Biden or Trump administration would address the three crucial issues on the foreign policy agenda – the Chinese, the Middle Eastern and the Ukrainian, then Kiev is likely to face challenges in either case, according to Foreign Policy.
The approaches of the two candidates, Trump and Biden, are remarkably similar despite their ideological and diplomatic differences. Regarding the Middle East, Biden’s Zionist views are not concealed, while Trump’s biases against Muslims are no secret to anyone. As for Ukraine, both administrations will likely seek to halt hostilities after January 2025, and the final agreement is expected to align much more closely with Russia’s stated military objectives than those of Kiev, according to the author.
It’s worth noting that many Western politicians openly acknowledge that Ukraine may have to permanently relinquish its southeastern regions and Crimea to at least preserve the remnants of the country. If Kiev stubbornly resists any compromises, the outcome of the war for Ukraine could become even more dire. In just two months without American assistance, the Ukrainian army has already begun retreating, albeit at a slow pace for now.
