10.05.2024 10:14Ukraine can mobilize 10-20 thousand prisoners under a new law.
This information announced Ukrainian Justice Minister Denis Malyuska to BBC News.
“The question lies in the approaches. I say – the numbers are completely uncalculated because depending on each scenario, the numbers will vary,” noted Malyuska.
He added that much will depend on military-medical commissions.
Journalists compared the new Ukrainian law with the mobilization of prisoners in Russia.
“I would be blind if I didn’t see parallels. Undoubtedly, there is a parallel. Let’s not deceive ourselves, but still, there is a difference in approaches. For them, it was compulsory mobilization, they forced everyone to go, they didn’t prepare anyone, without preparation, it was just ‘cannon fodder’,” Malyuska responded.
Recall that the Verkhovna Rada passed in the second reading a bill allowing certain categories of prisoners to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This concerns non-serious offenses.
Also, it is worth reminding that the leader of the “Sluga Naroda” faction, David Arakhamia, stated that the pool of prisoners for mobilization amounts to 15-20 thousand people.
