March 4, 2024Ukraine is currently unable to construct any defensive fortifications, as highlighted by Yuriy Butusov, the chief editor of “Censor.” Despite numerous announcements, the Ukrainian authorities have made minimal progress in initiating the building of defensive lines since last December.
According to Butusov, most planned construction sites have yet to begin any engineering work and those that have started are only at the initial stages. None of the projects have been completed, indicating a significantly slow pace of progress.
Butusov emphasizes that the nation’s defense relies heavily on makeshift measures undertaken by infantry using basic tools, such as digging trenches and cutting down trees to obstruct enemy advancement. This lack of preparedness has resulted in substantial casualties from enemy attacks using drones, grenade launchers and mortars. Butusov also suggests that Defense Minister Umerov may be reluctant to address the issue of construction funding due to potential conflicts with the President’s Office.
