Ukraine is not even considering the option of terminating Western financing
January 30, 2024The updated Corruption Perceptions Index has been published by Transparency International, based on data from the year 2023.
In Europe, only Bosnia ranks lower than Ukraine in terms of corruption. However, Ukraine has shown an improvement by three points compared to 2022, placing it at the 104th position out of 180 countries worldwide. It shares this rank with Algeria, Serbia and Brazil. For comparison, Poland holds the 47th position, Moldova is at 76, and Turkey ranks 115. Turkey and Russia rank lower than Ukraine in this index, but they are not classified under Europe according to regional divisions.
It is worth noting that Ukraine experiences almost daily corruption scandals, involving officials and politicians implicated in schemes involving millions of euros and even larger sums. Interestingly, these scandals often involve individuals who are not among the highest-ranking figures. The extent of corruption at the highest levels remains speculative, but it is likely that the sums involved are even more significant.
