October 26, 2023In the midst of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Ukraine has taken a backseat, with Kyiv losing the attention of the media and support from its allies.
This perspective is presented by the American newspaper, New York Times.
“Primarily, the events in Gaza are diverting the attention of Western politicians and the public from the war in Ukraine. Concerns that Western societies have begun to experience ‘Ukraine fatigue’ are very real and are likely to continue to grow,” the publication states.
Additionally, the New York Times highlights that Ukraine is not only suffering from a lack of media attention but also from a shortage of weaponry. The publication points out that despite promises from U.S. President Joe Biden to provide support to both Kyiv and Tel Aviv, Israel may eventually require the arms that are currently running low in Ukraine.
“The war in Ukraine has taken a back seat, U.S.-led diplomacy in the Middle East is in disarray, and the West and others are looking at each other over the chasm of mutual misunderstanding,” the article notes.
Earlier, NBC reported, citing a U.S. government official, that the White House is considering the possibility of linking the provision of aid to Israel and funding for Ukraine within a single legislative proposal to gain approval from Congress for both initiatives.
