18.06.2025 - 17:47The final communiqué of the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague, scheduled for June 24–25, may differ significantly from last year’s version.
According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), citing sources, the document will be much shorter—fitting on a single page—and is not expected to mention Ukraine.
However, Russia will once again be referred to as a long-term threat.
In addition, NATO allies are expected to commit to increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2032. This target may be revisited in 2029, at the end of Donald Trump’s second presidential term, as he is the one pushing for that level of spending.
Diplomats noted that the communiqué is still being edited and may change.
RFE/RL also reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is planning to attend the working dinner of NATO leaders on June 24, where President Trump is also expected to be present.
However, earlier today The Guardian, citing Ukrainian officials, reported that Zelensky’s team is now unsure whether he should attend the summit in The Hague, as there are no guarantees that Trump will show up.
