‘Predictions about the end of the war in 2024 did not come true, it will definitely continue into 2025’, – the Minister of Finance of Ukraine said
30.07.2024 - 09:36Ukraine needs to negotiate with Russia without waiting for the liberation of territories.
This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb in an interview with Le Monde.
“We are approaching the moment when negotiations should begin,” he said in an interview with Le Monde.
At the same time, Ukraine’s main condition—the withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territories—”cannot be put forward as a preliminary condition for possible negotiations,” Stubb believes.
Also, according to the President of Finland, “the start of negotiations does not mean that you will make concessions.”
“Ukraine needs security guarantees. And this is where we can help through bilateral agreements and a possible path to NATO, and of course, to the European Union,” Stubb said.
He also stated that Ukraine is currently in a better position for negotiations.
“Ukraine and Zelensky are in a much stronger position than two months ago. They are provided with the necessary equipment and budgets to maintain their positions. We are no longer in the situation we were in during the spring when American aid was blocked, and Europe had difficulties delivering equipment to Kyiv. There is no Russian breakthrough either,” the President of Finland believes.
