January 10, 2024The anti-aircraft missile system (NASAMS), which Canada promised to purchase from the United States a year ago for Ukraine’s needs, has not yet been delivered to Kyiv.
According to Canadian Ministry of Defense data, Ottawa transferred $406 million to Washington for these purposes in March 2023, and the US government signed a contract for its production with Raytheon. However, the company Kongsberg, also involved in the production of these anti-aircraft systems, stated that they do not have such a contract with either the US authorities or the Canadian government.
In January 2023, the press service of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, following his meeting with US President Joe Biden at the North American Leaders’ Summit in Mexico, announced that Canada would procure the NASAMS system from the United States for Ukraine’s needs.
