19.01.2026 - 13:19Ukraine has temporarily suspended the contract for the delivery of additional strike drones that was concluded with the German company Helsing. The reason was unsuccessful combat testing of the UAVs on Ukrainian territory.
This is reported by Bloomberg, citing a German Defense Ministry report and sources.
As stated in the material, the German drones delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine were not equipped with AI components, as had been envisaged in the contract. As a result, the equipment proved vulnerable to electronic warfare systems. In addition, Ukrainian troops encountered technical difficulties when launching the UAVs: only a quarter of the drones were able to get into the air. The cause was a mechanical malfunction of the catapult used to launch the drones.
According to the agency’s sources, the problems involved the HX-2 model, which has a stated flight range of 100 km and a stated maximum speed of 220 km/h.
Germany, which is paying for the delivery of these UAVs to Ukraine, does not plan to place an additional order until Kyiv expresses interest in continuing the deliveries.
These setbacks have reduced demand for the drones.
Earlier, media wrote that Russia currently has an advantage in drones.
In addition, Russians are increasingly using reusable drones both for offensive and defensive operations.
