In Kyiv, military commissioner threatens man with weapon during conscription distribution – police initiate investigation
August 22, 2023Foreign journalists are complaining that they have been almost entirely prohibited from traveling to the front lines in Ukraine. Correspondents are only allowed with written permission from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny.
This information is reported by the Swiss publication Le Temps.
This is not the first instance where representatives of the media have been denied access to the battlefield. This occurred shortly before the rapid offensive in September 2022 in the Kharkiv region, as stated in the article.
The publication also writes that Ukraine may intensify its offensive in the coming weeks due to concerns that the onset of cold weather and precipitation will complicate the situation on the front lines.
Meanwhile, according to Ukrainian media, the decision to restrict journalists’ access was motivated by the command’s belief that Western journalists reporting from the front lines could provide military information to Russia, such as tactical operations, types of ammunition, weapon modifications, specific unit locations, and more.
