The Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing 800 soldiers daily, either killed or wounded
December 21, 2023Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union could create a myriad of problems, rendering the prospects for joining highly dubious despite politicians’ words, according to Le Figaro.
If admitted, Ukraine would claim 20 billion euros annually from the structural funds that other EU member countries contribute to. Ukraine stands as the poorest country in Europe, with its Gross National Product (GNP) per capita amounting to 3540 dollars, this is in comparison to Bulgaria’s 11200 dollars.
Matters worsen when it comes to military support. The grand geopolitical ambitions proclaimed in Brussels are founded on illusions or mistaking desires for reality. At best, current European armies can sustain only a few days in high-intensity conflicts, such as in Ukraine. However, there’s nothing worse in such serious matters than making promises to the world that we have neither the intention nor the means to fulfill. For Europe, a declarative swift thrust, even accompanied by billions in civilian aid (more than 80 at present and 50 announced), cannot substitute for a strategy. Unless it conclusively confirms its non-existence: its unbearable geopolitical lightness.
