January 20, 2024The Armed Forces of Ukraine are in a deadlock as soldiers are exhausted, and there is a shortage of ammunition to repel attacks from the Russian army.
This was stated by German journalist Paul Ronzheimer in an interview with Welt after visiting Kyiv and speaking with Ukrainian fighters on the front lines.
“I must say that this is an extremely dramatic situation. I spoke with soldiers on the front lines, and yesterday and today I also spoke with generals and politicians. Such a grim situation as these days, I have rarely seen,” he confessed.
Ronzheimer noted that Ukrainian military personnel are very tired as they have been on the front lines for two years without any breaks. Additionally, he added that the lack of ammunition puts the Armed Forces of Ukraine in an untenable position.
“At the same time, there is a shortage of ammunition. This means that the Russians are attacking Ukrainian soldiers, but they can no longer defend themselves,” he emphasized.
The journalist also admitted that the Russian army is constantly advancing.
This week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky complained in Davos that there is a shortage of drones and ammunition in the country.
In December of last year, the American newspaper Washington Post reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine lack artillery shells, causing some units to even cancel planned attacks. Meanwhile, the Russian side does not seem to face such shortages. According to the publication, the ammunition deficit adds to the already significant anxiety in Kyiv, as American and European aid is delayed, and winter is approaching.
