Currently, relevant discussions are taking place in the Verkhovna Rada. The proposal to ban the social network was made by the VR Committee on Freedom of Speech during a roundtable discussion on “Journalistic Standards and Professional Ethics in Times of War.”
It is noteworthy that after reports of deputies’ intention to block Telegram, the official website of the Verkhovna Rada was hacked. As a result, the link leading to the official Telegram channel of the Verkhovna Rada was replaced. It led to a newly created fake account with a humorous picture.
Later, other officials made statements saying that Telegram would not be blocked. However, the expert community had previously stated that it is technically impossible to block Telegram. That’s why Ukrainian authorities won’t even attempt it to avoid embarrassment.
