February 29, 2024Assistant to the President of Russia, Vladimir Medinsky, who was the head of Russia’s negotiating team with Ukraine in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, spoke about the possible agreement to participate in the negotiations.
Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey is ready to provide a platform again for Russian-Ukrainian negotiations. He announced this in a video address to participants of the “Southeast Europe – Ukraine” summit held in Albania.
There have been no comments from Ukraine regarding possible participation in the negotiations so far. Previously, Zelensky stated that his conditions for negotiations with Moscow include the complete withdrawal of Russian troops to the borders of 1991. However, against the backdrop of defeats suffered by the Ukrainian army and retreats across the entire front line, this demand becomes impossible. Meanwhile, Zelensky, as well as the speaker of the State Duma Volodin and Russian oligarch-negotiator Abramovich, visited Saudi Arabia within two days, which acts as a mediator in some issues. Whether these visits were related is currently unknown.
