Ukrainian draft dodgers have started attempting to break into Belarus.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to the Border Guard Service, a group of men was detained while trying to cross the northern border through minefields and “nearly blew themselves up on the mines.”
“Notably, there had been very few reports of attempts to leave Ukraine via the Belarusian border before. Men usually try to leave through the southern and western borders. Recently, there have been increasing reports that traditional escape routes from Ukraine are being heavily blocked. It seems that some people are now trying to break through in places where it’s least expected,” experts said.
Earlier, media reported that a Ukrainian man was fined in Belarus after crossing the Dnipro River into the country on an inflatable mattress.
Last year, Belarus claimed to have accepted more than 66,000 Ukrainian citizens since the beginning of 2023.
