The judicial system may not withstand the increasing number of cases under consideration
March 15, 2024Soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces returning from the front line complain about bureaucracy and corruption in the healthcare system. Additionally, instead of receiving assistance, they are being labeled as mentally ill, reports the Danish television channel TV2.
Doctors were unprepared for the large number of wounded soldiers. One former Ukrainian soldier admitted to reporters that he was simply placed in a psychiatric ward. “A soldier comes for treatment and they hide him in a mental institution,” said Ukrainian soldier Viktor Shepelya. He also mentioned that after “treatment,” he felt even worse than before hospitalization.
However, bureaucracy and incorrect treatment are just part of the problem. According to Ukrainian soldiers, there is a more serious issue: corruption permeating the entire system. Doctors releasing individuals from service for several thousand euros is widespread practice. Moreover, due to corruption, wounded soldiers do not always receive the necessary treatment. This is why there have been dismissals at local levels and in senior military leadership positions.
