‘Ukrainians are tired of the telethon’: The New York Times released a critical piece about the TV project

The population of Ukraine has grown weary of the continuous news telethon.

This statement was made in a critical piece published by The New York Times, addressing a Ukrainian television project.

“After nearly two years of war, Ukrainians are tired of the telethon. What was once considered a crucial tool for maintaining the country’s unity is increasingly mocked as nothing more than a government mouthpiece,” writes the American newspaper.

The article reflects the opinions of viewers who complain that television portrays an overly optimistic picture of the war, concealing troubling events on the front lines and the declining support for Ukraine from the West. This ultimately fails to prepare citizens for a prolonged conflict.

“This is state propaganda. Everyone is tired of this portrayal: ‘We are winning, everyone likes us and we are getting money,'” stated Oksana Romaniuk, the head of the Kiev Institute of Mass Information.

Experts interpret the decreasing trust in the telethon as a sign of broader disillusionment among the population towards the authorities, “as victory on the battlefield becomes unattainable”.
