November 3, 2023During an air raid alert prompted by a drone attack, the popular Telegram channel “Nikolaevsky Vanek” strongly criticized mobile anti-drone groups operating in western regions of Ukraine.
“Where are these damn mobile groups in the western regions of the country?” wrote “Nikolaevsky Vanek.”
The comments under the post led to arguments among residents from different regions:
“They are studying the real estate market to rent out their properties at a higher price.”
“There’s no war there, just the Ukrainian language.”
“Lviv fortress.”
“Why do people in the south and southeast support these anti-drone units while there’s nothing happening in the west? Drones fly over, hit a few storage facilities and power plants and they’re done for. You can start throwing stones at me but in the western region, they think, ‘No war here, it’s all quiet.’ They got some money allocated, saw how well the south, center and Starkon (likely referring to the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine) are working, decided that they would handle everything for them and won’t let anything happen. The money got divided, there are groups in theory but no one is guarding. And here we go, drones are flying over western regions for hours, hoping to hit something. Idiots.”
In response, some commenters blamed the residents of eastern regions for everything:
“You ‘Easterners’ are awful people, yuck.”
“You obviously know why there’s a war where you are. Because there has always been the Russian language.”
Some commenters even suggested that mobile groups from western regions were relocated to the south and east:
“They took them from the western regions to the south and east. Something like that.”
